The Bengali nation also did not want to be a salve of Pakistani rulers. We get our independence by a long sea of blood and millions of lives. They are our national heroes; they are immortal to us for their great sacrifice. We remember them with love and respect for their movement. As long as Bangladesh exists, they will also live among us.

After the partition of the country in 1947, Bengal became a part of Pakistan called East Pakistan. But the West Pakistan’s ruling class made this country a colony of Pakistan through their maladministration, misrule, and deprivation. When the Pakistani rulers attacked the Bengali language, the Bengali nation launched a severe language movement against them in 1952.On February 21,1952, Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, Jabber and others gave their lives for language. It is very glourious for us that Bengali is the only one who has given blood for the language.

Later, when the ruling group committed various injustices, the Bengali nation started a strong movement. Thus, the education movement in 1962, six-point movement in 1966, mass movement in 1969 took place. In 1970, General Yahya Khan announced the election of National and Provincial Councils. Awami League participated in the elections based on eleven points and East Pakistan won majority in both assemblies. But the ruling group was frightened by the victory of Awami League and started to struggle to transfer power. As a result, there was a storm of protests and protests across the country. On March 7, 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman addressed a historic public meeting at the Racecourse Maidan. The movement became more rapid. When the Yahya-Mujib meeting failed on March 24, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested on the night of March 25 and taken to Karachi.

Since the night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistani invasion forces attacked Bengali, resistance has been built in various places. But since the provisional government of Bangladesh took charge, they took the initiative to conduct the liberation war in an organized and planned manner. At that time the entire Bangladesh was divided into eleven sectors and under the leadership of a commander in each sector, the freedom fighter started attacking and fighting against the Pak forces. Again, fed up with the atrocities of the Pak forces in India, who fled came back with training and started guerrilla attacks.
The vast masses of the country support the fighter in separate ways. As a result, the liberation struggle turned into an all-out people's war. And in this way, the Pakistani forces started to suffer under the attack of the Liberation Army.

Foreign countries and various social and cultural organizations played a positive role in the liberation war of Bangladesh. About one crore Bengalis took refuge in India due to the persecution of Pak forces. Government of India helps all these refugees with food, clothes, medicine. The governments and people of Eastern European countries, including the Russian government, formed public opinion against the torture and killing of Pakistan forces worldwide, along with supporting Bangladesh. At that time, the two superpowers, the United States and China, took a stand against Bangladesh, but their people declared solidarity with the rightful demands of the people of Bangladesh. On December 14,1971, the joint forces were only fourteen kilometers away from Dhaka. Seeing the situation on December 16, the commander of the invading forces, Lt. General Niazi with his ninety-four thousand soldiers surrendered to the Joint Command at Suhrawardy Udyan with arms. India sheltered one crore refugees at that time. Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi came forward to create world opinion by supporting the liberation war of Bangladesh. By coming to the aid of Bangladesh, India also entered an armed war. The Soviet Union also supported Bangladesh's liberation war. Even though the then US administration opposed Bangladesh, the people, intellectuals, and politicians of that country supported Bangladesh. In the face of their resistance, the US administration was forced to stop arms exports to Pakistan. George Harrison of Beatles and Indian Pandit Ravi Shankar organized 'Concert for Bangladesh' in USA to help Bangladesh. People supported Bangladesh including French writer Andre Marois, Jean Paul Satre.

The independence of Bangladesh is not a fragmented isolated dream or fantasy. An unconquerable spirit with a real sense of united life-effort, conflict, hope-despair; In exchange for the sacrifice of three million people and the honor of two million mothers and sisters in the war of liberation, it has been added to the map of the world. And we got a new and independent land called Bangladesh with red and green flag. We should remember, freedom is harder to defend than to gain. So, we must work relentlessly to protect freedom.
